M-am apucat să citesc cartea “The Ape in the Corner Office”, scrisă de Richard Conniff. După primele 15 pagini lecturate, îmi permit să citez câteva chestii care mi s-au părut interesante:

[…] W.L. Gore & Co., maker of Gore-Tex, has chosen to keep its plants and offices at what feels like a comfortable human scale – under two hundred employees. This is close to the maximum size of the tribal clans in which human society evolved, and some biologists say our brains are actually built to operate on this social scale.

Apropo de faptul că femeile au muşchii responsabili de zâmbet mai dezvoltaţi decât bărbaţii:

“It’s an honest-to-God predicament,” says Marianne LaFrance, a Yale Unversity psychologist. “Smiling is clearly the default option for women. When they don’t smile, people want to know what’s the problem. When they do, they’re in full gendered mode, and then people don’t take them seriously.”

Astea-s doar două, dar mai că aş fi vrut să citez majoritatea paragrafelor citite până acum. M-a prins, la fel cum reuşeşte un documentar interesant să mă prindă. Cred că aş renunţa la a mai merge la al meu “corner office” pentru câteva dimineţi, numai pentru a putea ajunge cât mai rapid la ultima copertă a cărţii ăsteia.

Eu am împrumutat versiunea în engleză, habar nu am dacă or exista şi traduceri prin librăriile sau bibliotecile de pe la noi.
